BENVENUTO BRUNELLO Event 2015 #SanFrancisco

Welcome back #Winelovers

Hopefully 2015 is starting out as a great year for most of you!

Lunch:

On Thursday January 22nd The Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino invited me to a private lunch to taste the 2010 Vintage at the Epic Roasthouse restaurant on The Embarcadero.

A selected group of known wine producers from Tuscany presented their Rosso di Montalcino 2013 and Brunello di Montalcino wines (2010, 2009, 2007) which were paired by the Chef Parke Ulrich.

The food and wines were outstanding! As a first course we had Charcuterie, which includes Bresaola, Prosciutto, Capicola and Salami. Then as a second course we tasted the Butternut Squash Tortellini (Celery Root Puree, Lollipop Kale, Cranberry & Hazelnut). For the third course, I chose the Grilled Filet of Beef with fondant potatoes, broccoli rate, crispy onions and steak sauce. Finally, for dessert we enjoyed a delicious Warm Chocolate Toffee Cake. Throughout the lunch, the wineries that participated were Banfi, Barbi, Capanna, Caprili, Col d' Orcia, IL Poggione, Pian dell Vigne, and Tenute Piccini.

On a side note: If you happen to travel to San Francisco and love meat (besides wine of course) this restaurant is a must-go-to! It has a beautiful panoramic view of the Bay, Bay Bridge, Treasure Island, and the San Francisco Skyline surely turning a meal paired with a wine of your choice into an experience.

Afternoon Event:

After the delicious lunch experience by the chef Parke Ulrich I attended the Walk-Around Trade Tasting in The Fairmont's hotel Terrace Room in Nob Hill.
Before I start talking about anything else I would like to first congratulate The Consorzio Brunello di Montalcino on putting together this wine event which hosted over 40 renowned wineries from Montalcino to reveal for the first time in the United States the Brunello di Montalcino 2010, along with their Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2009, Rosso di Montalcino 2013, Sant' Antimo and Moscadello di Montalcino.
The beautiful panoramic view from the Terrace Room accompanied with the exceptional wine tasting turned this event into a journey, experiencing Tuscany, through every sip that one took from the different wineries.

View from the Terrace Room
(On this blog I will just focus on the Brunello di Montalcino 2010 vintage).
It is important to note that of the wineries that attended the event none of them disappointed me. The grand majority displayed well-balanced and structured wines, which had intense fruit, mineral stone,  perfect acidity, tannin, full-body, and gorgeous length. Their wines as a whole were an indicator of what such a good grape season they had in 2010.

What I really love about the 2010 vintage is that these wines can be enjoyed now in their young age but in years to come they will become even better. Therefore, the wineries that attended have a reason to be proud of it since only great wine producers can create wine that is very enjoyable in its young age.
These wines are alive. Throughout every sip you can feel the passion and hard work that was put into achieving their present result.

Of the 40 wineries that assisted the event, the following wine producers grabbed my attention the most: (In alphabetical order)
- Argiano
- Barbi
- Camigliano
- Canalicchio di Sopra
- Capanna
- Caparzo

- Lisini
- Palazzo
- Pinino
- Sassetti Livio Pertimali

Before ending this blog I would also like to thank and congratulate the IEEM Agency directed by Mariana Nedic for organizing the event for the Consorzio del Vino Brunello Di Montalcino. The entire team deliver high quality wine events to the wine industry, putting together great seminars and wine tastings. They did a fantastic job!

Lastly, I'm looking forward to try more of the Brunello di Montalcino 2010 vintage from different vineyards in my next trip to Vinitaly fair that will be held in Verona March 2015. Some of the producers that I'm looking forward to try are:

  1. I attended a few company events at rental halls in Philadelphia and I must say that I was impressed every time. Their halls and rooms are absolutely gorgeous.
